Every now and then a technology comes along that really mixes things up and is quite exciting to implement. The Nvidia K1 and K2 cards were just that. Seeing them in action were quite impressive especially the Face Works demo.
Well now Nvidia have gone and done it again and improved on that technology with the announcement initially being made at VMworld. They are introducing the Shared Virtual GPU technology to Horizon View. The new technology allows the K1/K2 to be shared without translation by the hypervisor.
Profiles allow the card to be time sliced to ensure desktops can be guaranteed the required graphics memory with Q profiles receiving the same Application Certification testing the workstation cards go through.
The product is currently in Early Access which means customers need to have existing K1/K2 workloads to be able to be accepted to test the latest offering.
If you meet the requirements then I would strongly recommend getting involved. Ultimately you will have a chance to help shape the product.
You can apply here, but please bear in mind that it will be pre-release code so is not suitable for Production.
Additional information on the technology can be found here
Please feel free to let me know how it goes.
Thanks
